00 — Overview

Work & Supply network member (stage W1 of the workforce programme). The demo people are fictional. Timesheets (W3), competencies (W4), authorizations and appointments (W5), training (W6) and people incidents (W7) follow in later stages.

What Workforce is

The one place that knows who the people are. An employee is own staff or a contractor's person; each has one trade at a time, an employer (blank for own staff; the supplier number of the contractor company for a contractor's person), a site, a supervisor and a status. Work Management keeps a read-only copy of each employee and stamps the trade on the time it records, so a later change of trade never changes a past cost.

No pay data is held: no salary, tax file number, bank or superannuation details and no home address (plan decision 4). An employee is never deleted: one who leaves is terminated with an end date, and their history stays.

The models

  • Trade (workforce.trade) — code (what other applications show: electrician, boilermaker, fitter ...), name, classification level, description, status. A code may be corrected later; copies elsewhere follow.
  • Employee (workforce.employee) — employee number (own staff E-nnnn, assigned on save; a contractor's person keeps the number their employer gave them), name ("First Last", set from the two parts), trade, position title, employer (supplier_cid / supplier_ref), site (site_cid / site_ref), supervisor, start and end dates, status (active, inactive, suspended, terminated), work e-mail and phone. profile_revision rises by one whenever the trade, employer, site, status, name or position changes; it is what publishes workforce.employee_changed.

The demo data (15 Oct 2026)

Who Number Trade Employer
Sam Whitfield, Maintenance Supervisor E1002 supervisor own staff
Jordan Reyes, Maintenance Planner E1001 planner own staff
Alex Nguyen, Heavy Diesel Fitter E1017 diesel_mechanic own staff
Priya Kaur, Contract Fitter C2044 fitter SUP-0042 Example Heavy Components

The four demo people have the same network ids as Work's Person rows, so Work's seed and the events agree. Twenty more people give a crew for a timesheet week: electricians, an auto-electrician, boilermakers, fitters, diesel mechanics, two apprentices, operators, a shutdown planner, an electrical supervisor, two more contractors' people of SUP-0042, one suspended, one inactive and one who left (terminated 30 Jun 2026). All work at site MINE-A.

Nine trades: fitter, diesel mechanic, auto-electrician, electrician, boilermaker, apprentice, planner, supervisor, operator.
